Wat een prachtig gezicht, die eende-kuikens!
Deze drie worden door twee moeders begeleid.
Het nest van deze eenden is normaliter veel groter (bevat meer eieren). Ik wist waar het nest lag en al snel kwam ik erachter waarom er maar drie kuikens waren; één ei was in het nest kapot gegaan en er hadden vliegen eitjes in het ei (met het dood kuiken) gelegd. Het nest krioelde inmiddels van de maden! De moeders waren aldus gedwongen het nest voortijdig te verlaten.
Niet getreurd; ik ‘poetste’ de eieren die intact waren voorzichtig schoon en legde ze vervolgens bij een andere broedende eend. Kwestie van afwachten…
